Bone Marrow Biopsy Yesterday

Hi Everyone, this is Sibyl,

Yesterday was Sixty Days Post transplant,
so Stephi had an appointment for a Bone Marrow
Biopsy--a surgical procedure. It was a rough session.
Several times during the doctor's attempt to
get core bone material, the bone collapsed. He
said this is probably an indication of osteoporosis.
Steph and I do not dispute that thought because
we have been noticing the emergence of a slight
Doweger's hump forming on her upper back, very
similar to what our Dad had.

We will not know the results for a while. Steph and I
had a long talk yesterday afternoon. She feels
very strongly that this biopsy will show the continuing
growth of cancer. Getting the stemcells was an ordeal,
and we could only get enough for one transplant. Steph
said, in a way, she was not sorry about that because
she feels she could not have made it through another
chemo. She is not morose about it, but
has that premonition. With the probablity of
osteoporosis (which we are checking out), she
is now more cautious than ever, about falling. She
said yesterday, that no matter what the outcome of
this test, she will be needing to ready this house for
sale. There were too many steps for her
husband and now, they are too many for her as well.
She cannot risk falling, and this house has dozens of
ways to trip her. As she gets stronger, she is getting a
clearer vision of the plans she needs to make. I
encouraged her to take the full 100 days rest and
recuperation the doctors recommended, and then
we will address her plan of action. She will see her
psychiatric social worker on Friday. She will also
start talks with Denise about readying the house for sale
so she can get the highest possible price. This is not
going to a "fire sale". She and her husband need the money
to live. She has time and resources to do this right.

Steph is staying in bed as long as possible today. She
does not feel well.

Love,
Sib
